Del Valle Regional Park

Updated: May 28, 2022

If you are ever in the Livermore Valley area, take the time to check out Del Valle Regional Park!

Your outdoor activity style can be satisfied here; Del Valle has something for everyone.

Del Valle Regional Park's lake.

Growing up in Livermore, I loved visiting Del Valle. In high school, I would come to the lake to swim with friends, enjoy a hike, and take in the beautiful views. Del Valle is filled with trails, wildflowers, wildlife and memories to be made. Del Valle is not only family-friendly, but it is dog and horse-friendly too!

Before Arriving/Arrival

Before heading to Del Valle, I recommend taking the time to prepare for your trip. Taking the time to gather everything you want to bring ahead of time, will ensure that you do not forget anything important. Del Valle Regional Parks provides visitors with a 'New Visitors' guide (click here), to get guests started on the right foot.

A little preparation can go a long way, in ensuring that you have a wonderful time all day long. Some items that I always bring with me are:

  • Cash (entrance fee)

  • Sunscreen

  • Towel(s)

  • Hat

  • Blanket (outdoor)

  • Chairs

  • Plenty of water (you can never bring too much)

  • Snacks/Food

  • Bag and Glove for picking up trash

  • Extra Shoes and Socks

  • Jacket

The drive to Del Valle is very scenic and it is easy to become distracted by the views. Be careful of cyclists during this drive!

Activities

Del Valle Regional Park has motorboats, patio boats, pedal boats, and canoes to rent at the Each Beach Marina. If kayaking is more your style (as it is my preferred water activity), you can rent kayaks at the east beach Kayak Center.

Some of my favorite activities to do while I am at Del Valle are kayaking, hiking, and enjoying a scenic lunch. The best time to go to the lake is during the week. I know this is not feasible in everyone's lifestyle, but during the week it is quiet enough to spot deers, observe the wildlife, and enjoy a hike. During the summer the lake tends to be busier than during the fall, winter, and spring months. There are picnic tables throughout the park and public bathrooms.

Del Valle Regional Park offers cabin camping, family camping, group camping, and equestrian camping. Though I have never been camping at this lake, I can see it being a great option, especially for introducing camping to your family or friends.

I recently visited Del Valle's visitor center and learned about the 29th annual East Bay Regional Park trails challenge for 2022! It is free to be a part of and you can learn more about it here! I received an informational booklet about all of the East Bay Regional Parks and a shirt with the logo chosen for this year's challenge, all for free. This challenge is a great way to stay active and support/discover the local regional parks in East Bay.

Park Calendar/Resources

Looking to see what events Del Valle hosts? Del Valle has an event calendar with upcoming activities. I have yet to attend any of the events that Del Valle has to offer, but now that I have moved back to the Bay Area, I will be utilizing their calendar.
